Schwartz gets good news after visit to foot specialist.

The New York Giants announced Tuesday morning that starting offensive guard Geoff Schwartz will not need surgery for his dislocated toe. Schwartz will be in a walking boot for 7-10 days and will then begin rehab. He will be-re-evaluated on a week-to-week basis after that. Schwartz was evaluated Monday by Dr. Robert Anderson.

"This is just a minor setback," said Schwartz in a statement released by the team. "I plan on attacking the rehab program so I can get back on the field as soon as possible with my teammates and help us win games."

Schwartz, signed to a four-year, $16.8 million contract in the offseason, had been the team's starting left guard. He was injured Friday night vs. the New York Jets.

In his place rookie second-round pick Weston Richburg has moved in at left guard.

The Giants had feared that Schwartz might be lost for a significant period of time. The team's announcement Tuesday gave no indication of a potential return date, but it seems possible Schwartz could be back on the field within a few weeks. That, of course, is good news for an offensive line that can use the help.

The injury to Schwartz will leave the Giants scrambling not only for a starting offensive line, but to figure out who the backups will be.

Coughlin said that until Schwartz visits Dr. Anderson "there is nothing I can say."

"Losing Geoff is a major disappointment," Coughlin said. "Let's not jump to conclusions. Let's see when the evaluation is completed what the length of time is."

When Schwartz was injured Friday night rookie Weston Richburg replaced him at left guard. Coughlin mentioned both Richburg and John Jerry as options to start at guard in Schwartz's place.

"We continue. We've done various experiments with people at different spots," Coughlin said. "We'll just continue to operate in that fashion."

Coughlin said Richburg "did OK last night."

"He did OK last night. He’s a talented young man who is in a position where he’s going to have to help us."

The shoulder injury Harris suffered could impact whether or not he makes the final roster.

Odell Beckham Update

Coughlin said he has no idea if the rookie wide receiver will practice this week, but "they say progress is being made." The Giants first-round pick has yet to play in the preseason.
