<p>Wynn aiming for fifth season with New York</p> <p id="GMotqt"><span>Kerry Wynn</span> is one of those guys it just seems difficult to get rid of. He’s never been a dynamic player-maker for the <a href="https://www.bigblueview.com/">New York Giants</a>, but when they need him to fill in at defensive end he knows what to do and plays with outstanding effort. He is also a solid citizen in the locker room, important for a guy who isn’t a mainstay on the defense.</p>
<p id="4ocR8e">Can Wynn, whose Giants career started as an undrafted free agent out of Richmond back in 2014, earn a fifth season with the Giants? Let’s focus on Wynn as we have reached the last of our player-by-player profiles of the Giants’ 90-man roster.</p>
<h2 id="P2nlAc">The basics</h2>
<p id="zljbzA"><strong>Age: </strong>27<br><strong>Height: </strong>6-foot-5<br><strong>Weight: </strong>264<br><strong>Position: </strong>Defensive end<br><strong>Experience:</strong> 4</p>
<h2 id="8SqOFW">2017 season in review</h2>
<p id="JijBEN">A pretty typical Wynn season. He played in 15 games with three starts, totaling 14 tackles and 1 sack. Wynn played 252 defensive snaps, 22.9 percent. He compiled a 48.7 Pro Football Focus grade, in the “poor” category.</p>
<h2 id="vSmPVj">2018 outlook </h2>
<p id="s2ktJB">Interestingly, during the spring it looked like the Giants will keep Wynn at defensive end. The guys who look like they will start at those spots are 317-pound <span>Dalvin Tomlinson</span> and 311-pound <span>B.J. Hill</span>. Listed at 264 pounds, Wynn is a different player.</p>
<p id="YVthQ7">Perhaps the Giants like his run defense. Perhaps they just don’t believe he is athletic enough to make the move to outside linebacker. </p>
<p id="x8Z6od">Either way, I’m taking the <span>Mark Herzlich</span> approach with Wynn. I will believe he will make the 53-man roster, until he doesn’t.</p>

<p>Cornerback one of several players trying to stand out in crowd</p> <p id="yCxoiG">Non-descript. Unheralded. Anonymous. Unknown. Overlooked.</p>
<p id="Gvhl56">Whatever way you want to describe them, the <a href="https://www.bigblueview.com/">New York Giants</a> have a number of cornerbacks on the roster you probably hadn’t heard of until they were signed by your favorite team.</p>
<p id="JqnaPS">One of those is <span>Teddy Williams</span>. A seven-year veteran, Williams entered the league in 2012 with the <a href="https://www.stampedeblue.com/">Indianapolis Colts</a> as an undrafted free agent. He has played for five teams and never started a game. </p>
<p id="PHgzhZ">Let’s look at Williams as we continue our look at the players who will make up the Giants’ 90-man training camp roster.</p>
<h2 id="BNJk5P">The basics</h2>
<p id="Vqe4wL">Age: 30<br>Height: 6-foot-1<br>Weight: 210<br>Position: Cornerback<br>Experience: 7</p>

<p id="1jH04Y">Williams spent the season on injured reserve with a shoulder injury.</p>
<h2 id="FMMdEs">2018 outlook</h2>
<p id="6gwjXL">Who knows? There are four corners — <span>Janoris Jenkins</span>, <span>Eli Apple</span>, <span>William Gay</span>, newly-drafted Sam Beal — who are almost certain to make the roster. Williams, who has played in 36 NFL games without a start, is in that mix of unheralded, unknown players fighting for one of the final spots.</p>
<p id="hjTgdc">At one time, Williams was a <a href="https://www.catscratchreader.com/2017/3/22/15020672/panthers-bring-back-special-teams-ace-teddy-williams">premier special teams player</a>. He <a href="https://www.catscratchreader.com/2017/3/22/15020672/panthers-bring-back-special-teams-ace-teddy-williams">apparently never played college football</a>, but used his sprinter’s speed to make an impact there. If he can still make plays on special teams he might have a chance to stick around.</p>

<p>Let’s look at the Giants a different way</p> <p id="1p3MeA">There are a lot of ways to preview training camp, some more fun than others. Let’s take a fun look at 2018 <a href="https://www.bigblueview.com/">New York Giants</a> training camp using the alphabet as our guide.</p>
<p id="3ND545"><strong>A is for ... Apple. </strong>Eli Apple had a miserable 2017, much of it self-inflicted. He showed a much better frame of mind this spring. The Giants need the former first-round pick to play like one.</p>
<p id="aZbWZp"><strong>B is for ... Barkley. Beckham, too. </strong><span>Saquon Barkley</span> and <span>Odell Beckham Jr.</span> The B&B Boys. The bookends to what the Giants hope will be a rebuilt, high-flying offense that causes headaches for opposing defenses.</p>
<p id="EPTj2n"><strong>C is for ... Collins.</strong> Landon Collins is entering his fourth season. He is the best player on James Bettcher’s defense, and is developing into that group’s leader. </p>
<p id="uJckrX"><strong>D is for ... Defense.</strong> Can James Bettcher rebuild a Giants’ unit that didn’t get the job done a year ago?</p>
<p id="qErFCl"><strong>E is for ... Engram.</strong> Evan Engram showed tons of promise last season despite perhaps not being utliized in ways that maximized the things he can do best. It will be interesting to see if he takes a step forward this season.</p>
<p id="OGgvEa"><strong>F is for ... Flowers.</strong> Ereck Flowers is transitioning from left tackle to right tackle. Will that help his career? Can he do an adequate job protecting <span>Eli Manning</span> from that side? His play will be one of the keys to whether or not the re-structured offensive line is better.</p>

<p id="CHArhO"><strong>G is for ... Gettleman. </strong>When the Giants hired GM Dave Gettleman some thought little would change, that the Giants were just turning to their former pro personnel guy for the sake of continuity. Well, Gettleman’s work thus far has been a vast change from the way Jerry Reese built a roster. Yes, things are much different with Gettleman building the roster.</p>
<p id="Ga92A8"><strong>H is for ... Hernandez.</strong> Will Hernandez was the team’s second-round pick, and a key part of the offensive line rebuild. His run-blocking and nasty disposition on the field should be a huge help to the offense.</p>
<p id="rtptyf"><strong>I is for ... Interception.</strong> The Giants threw 13 (13 by Eli Manning and one by <span>Shane Vereen</span>) last season. They had only 13 of their own. Throw less, get more. That’s the ticket. </p>
<p id="WvfA3F"><strong>J ... is for Jackrabbit.</strong> This is a big year for Janoris Jenkins. Injury and suspension made 2017 a rough year for him. The Giants need the Jackrabbit they saw in 2016. If they don’t get it, the guaranteed money ($28.8 million) on $62.5 million deal will have been paid, and Jenkins could find himself out the door.</p>
<p id="wPVD69"><strong>K is for ... Kicking game.</strong> Placekicking, punting, returning kicks. The Giants need to be better at all of it.</p>
<p id="ctDAIm"><strong>L is for ... Linebacker. </strong>The Giants actually paid attention to the linebacker position this offseason. They moved their best front seven defender, <span>Olivier Vernon</span>, to outside linebacker. They traded for Alec Ogletree. They signed <span>Kareem Martin</span> as a free agent. They used a third-round draft pick on Lorenzo Carter. The Giants? Using real resources to try and build a quality linebacking corps? It’s a brave new world.</p>
<p id="3gVnpI"><strong>M is for Manning.</strong> Of course. Could it be for anyone else on the Giants other than Eli Manning. This season comes down to the central question of whether or not the Giants have been right in their judgment that Manning can still play winning football.</p>
<p id="s0MUbs"><strong>N is for ... Nonsense.</strong> Last season was filled with it for the Giants. This season should be much different.</p>
<p id="Ux624a"><strong>O is for ,,, Offense.</strong> With Barkley, Beckham, Engram, Sterling Shepard, a revamped offensive line and a new scheme with Pat Shurmur in charge, maybe the Giants will run a real one this season.</p>
<p id="SzFvF5"><strong>P is for ... Punter competition. </strong>The Giants are no longer Wing-ing it at this position. <span>Riley Dixon</span> and <span>Taylor Symmank</span> will compete to replace the discarded <span>Brad Wing</span>.</p>
<p id="2bRuEY"><strong>Q is for ... Quarterback. </strong>Really, this season is all about the quarterback position for the Giants. Were the Giants right to put their continued faith in Eli Manning? Can Davis Webb or <span>Kyle Lauletta</span> show enough to make the organization believe the quarterback of the future is already on the roster?</p>
<p id="UuTE9b"><strong>R is for ... Rosas.</strong> Placekicker Aldrick Rosas has talent. He also had a miserable rookie season. Can he earn, and take advantage of, a second chance?</p>
<p id="lmcMbm"><strong>S is for ... Shurmur.</strong> Pat Shurmur was hired to be head coach in part because he impressed the Giants as an “adult.” Sadly, that standard wasn’t really met a year ago. Shurmur’s respectful, professional attitude has been refreshing. Now, can he win games?</p>
<p id="NJzmQz"><strong>T is for ... Tackles. </strong>We already mentioned Ereck Flowers. The play of Flowers and <span>Nate Solder</span> will have a lot to do with whether or not the offensive line shows improvement.</p>
<p id="vp2pz3"><strong>U is for ... Underdog.</strong> The Giants play in a division with the defending <a href="https://www.sbnation.com/super-bowl">Super Bowl</a> champion <a href="https://www.bleedinggreennation.com/">Philadelphia Eagles</a>. They won three games a year ago and have missed the playoffs five of six years. That makes them a decided underdog. They have won from that position before. Can they turn back the clock and do it again?</p>
<p id="PhNi6y"><strong>V is for ... Vernon. </strong>The Giants are moving Olivier Vernon to linebacker, and it’s a move that needs to work. He is their most accomplished pass rusher, and if he can’t get to the quarterback you wonder if the Giants have anyone who can.</p>
<p id="gPRmDp"><strong>W is for ... Webb.</strong> Davis Webb was impressive this spring. That, though, doesn’t mean he solidified himself as the team’s quarterback of the future. Will he get on the field this year? What will he look like if and when he does?</p>
<p id="1mmtvl"><strong>X is for ... X-Factor.</strong> Something completely unexpected always happens, whether that be a player coming out of nowhere to be a star or a coach and GM ending up fired before the season ends. What will it be this year?</p>
<p id="GJno5D"><strong>Y is for ... Why does this have to be part of the alphabet?</strong> I’ve got nothing. You come up with your own idea.</p>
<p id="7sfzEQ"><strong>Z is for ... Zo.</strong> As in Lorenzo Carter. The Giants need someone besides Olivier Vernon who can threaten the edge as a pass rusher. The third-round pick has the athletic skills. Now, can he and the Giants develop them?</p>

<p>Williams might be a man without a position in Giants’ 3-4</p> <p id="xibrnz">When teams change schemes the positions and roles of some players change — like the way the <a href="https://www.bigblueview.com/">New York Giants</a> are moving <span>Olivier Vernon</span> to outside linebacker. Sometimes, though, scheme changes can leave certain players on the outside looking in, without a comfortable fit in the new system.</p>
<p id="LYRcKs">Will that be the case for <span>Jordan Williams</span>?</p>
<p id="jNorb8">The 25-year-old <span>Williams</span>, an undrafted free agent out of Tennessee, played one game for the <a href="https://www.thephinsider.com/">Miami Dolphins</a> in 2015. He played one game for the Giants last year. A college defensive tackle, the 6-foot-4, 272-pound Williams is best-suited in the NFL to be a 4-3 defensive end. </p>
<p id="SQo2iN">Is he big enough to handle 5-tech defensive end responsibilities in a 3-4? Or, is he agile enough to stand up and play outside linebacker? Let’s look closer at Williams as we near the end of our player-by-player profiles of the Giants’ 90-man training camp roster.</p>

<p id="NbHAwk">Williams had a good preseason for the Giants, with 6 tackles and a sack in three games. That earned him a spot on the practice squad. He appeared in one regular-season game, registering one tackle in a 51-17 loss to the <a href="https://www.turfshowtimes.com/">Los Angeles Rams</a>.</p>
<h2 id="vW1Nth">2018 outlook </h2>
<p id="aS6Skh">That depends on the answers to the questions raised above. Williams is a quiet, hard-working player who has also learned to long snap. Whether or not he has the skill set to fit into James Bettcher’s defense remains to be seen.</p>

<p>Second-year man did not get first-team reps in open spring practices</p> <p id="3Bx1PT">The previous <a href="https://www.bigblueview.com/">New York Giants</a> decision-makers were thrilled to get <span>Chad Wheeler</span> into training camp as an undrafted free agent a season ago, feeling that the big offensive tackle would have been a mid-round selection in the draft if not for some off-the-field questions.</p>
<p id="KU5Y4e">How does the current regime led by GM Dave Gettleman and coach Pat Shurmur feel about the 24-year-old Wheeler? Let’s examine that question today as we near the end of our player-by-player profiles of the Giants’ 90-man roster.</p>
<h2 id="spsrFC">The basics</h2>
<p id="Z2Ff2E"><strong>Age:</strong> 24<br><strong>Height:</strong> 6-foot-7<br><strong>Weight:</strong> 312<br><strong>Position:</strong> Offensive tackle<br><strong>Experience:</strong> 1</p>
<h2 id="L4K9Mt">2017 season in review</h2>
<p id="TacwwJ">Wheeler made the 53-man roster as an undrafted free agent. Injuries to and incompetence of others eventually forced him into action. He ended up playing 261 snaps, all but two of which came from Week 11 to the end of the season. Wheeler started five games. He allowed three sacks and compiled a 44.2 Pro Football Focus grade, in the “poor” category.</p>

<p id="JObLmR">When the Giants signed <span>Nate Solder</span> to play left tackle, coach Pat Shurmur told former left tackle <span>Ereck Flowers</span> he would have to compete for the job at right tackle. Wheeler, who started four games at right tackle last season, would be the player on the current roster most likely to give <span>Flowers</span> a run for that job. </p>
<p id="0yJrUn">Well, if there is a competition at that position the Giants certainly have an odd way of showing it. Flowers took every first-team snap this spring in practices that were open to the media. It isn’t hard to watch that and figure out that Wheeler is destined for a backup role this season, perhaps as the team’s swing tackle. </p>
<p id="t1B9mD">That is a job teams usually like to have a veteran player fill. While the Giants are flush with experienced guards, tackle is different. They have little at the position other than the three players already mentioned.</p>
<p id="gVs00h">It would not be shocking to see the Giants add a veteran tackle at some point, but for now Wheeler seems likely to fill that swing tackle role.</p>

<p>Will 2018 be the year we finally find out what Davis Webb has to offer as a NFL quarterback?</p> <p id="vt7mkI">As we come another player closer to the end of our annual <a href="https://www.bigblueview.com/">New York Giants</a> 90-man training camp roster preview, it’s time to explore one of the biggest mysteries on the team: backup quarterback <span>Davis Webb</span>. </p>
<h2 id="y7GAcE">The basics</h2>
<p id="6UNJIS"><strong>Age:</strong> 23<br><strong>Experience: </strong>2nd season<br><strong>Position: </strong>Quarterback <br><strong>Height: </strong>6-foot-5<br><strong>Weight:</strong> 229 pounds</p>
<h2 id="W9lmEb">2017 season in review</h2>
<p id="QnRTGY">When it comes to the head-scratching storylines from 2017, the mystery surrounding Webb probably ranks up there at the top. Drafted in the third round out of Cal, Webb was widely believed to be the heir apparent to <span>Eli Manning</span>’s throne.</p>
<p id="25Jlzu">Or so we thought. It later was revealed that Ben McAdoo, the head coach at the time, <a href="https://www.newsday.com/sports/football/giants/giants-didn-t-believe-davis-webb-would-be-available-1.13540995">never worked Webb out in person</a> or met the young man prior to the team’s drafting him supposedly because the Giants didn’t think Webb would be available by the time they were on the clock in the third round. </p>
<p id="uj8p4E">If that wasn’t bizarre enough, while the coaching staffs, from McAdoo to interim head coach Steve Spagnuolo kept praising Webb for getting better every week, Webb still sat behind <span>Geno Smith</span>, the quarterback McAdoo once said had a chance of being the team’s <a href="https://nypost.com/2017/03/28/mcadoo-with-jaw-dropper-geno-smith-can-be-giants-future/">signal caller of the future</a>, until the final week of the season when the coaches finally flip-flopped the depth chart over. </p>
<p id="BDCfkm">Even as the Giants season turned into the chase for the No. 1 overall draft pick, Webb still couldn’t find his way onto the field in the regular-season finale, even though he had been promoted to second-string. </p>
<p id="unKRYd">Seriously, folks, you couldn’t make this stuff up if you tried. </p>
<h2 id="olZtdY">2018 outlook </h2>
<p id="Z9I2UT">Eli Manning has already been declared the starting quarterback, but what will be interesting to watch, assuming Webb hangs on to the No. 2 spot throughout the summer, is if he finally gets some live game reps in the regular-season in relief of Manning when games get out of hand either way. </p>
<p id="rO7Nn7">Current head coach Pat Shurmur, who comes with a reputation of being a quarterback whisperer — actually it’s because, as former NFL (and one-time Giants backup) quarterback <span>Sage Rosenfels</span> of LockedOn <a href="https://www.dailynorseman.com/">Vikings</a> told Ed Valentine and yours truly on a <a href="http://traffic.megaphone.fm/LKN1443936572.mp3">Locked On Giants podcast</a> earlier this year that Shurmur adapts his system to the strength of his players which is how he gets the most out of them.</p>
<p id="Rlc6Y5">But in order to fully appreciate the strengths of a player, there is no substitution for game reps. </p>

<p id="1EmZtW">During spring practices, Webb has looked much more confident and at ease. He did a nicer job of throwing the ball, particularly on the move, and looked significantly calmer when going through his reads and progressions. </p>
<p id="gn1RF6">Webb’s offseason trainer, Tony Racioppi, told me for an <a href="https://go.redirectingat.com?id=66960X1641761&xs=1&url=https%3A%2F%2Ftheathletic.com%2F303797%2F2018%2F04%2F09%2Fdavis-webbs-trainer-details-what-the-second-year-qb-has-been-working-on-this-offseason%2F&referrer=sbnation.com&sref=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.bigblueview.com%2F2018%2F7%2F20%2F17419340%2Fny-giants-90-man-roster-analysis-2018-davis-webb-mystery" rel="sponsored nofollow noopener" target="_blank">article appearing in <em>The Athletic</em></a> that perhaps among the biggest differences Giants fans can expect to see in Webb this year include an ability to avoid the pass rush, a fine-tuned throwing sequence and smoother drops.</p>
<p id="y84uB9">But again, there is no substitute for live game reps. While Webb has looked more at ease in his role this spring, the real test will come when the lights go on and the public is watching.</p>

<p>Journeyman defensive back was out of the league in 2017</p> <p id="8bc2F5"><span>B.W. Webb</span>. Sounds like an insurance company. In a way, that is what is what Webb, a journeyman cornerback, is for the <a href="https://www.bigblueview.com/">New York Giants</a>.</p>
<p id="T5mIdD">Webb is one of the many unheralded cornerbacks the Giants brought in throughout the offseason as they try to offset losing <span>Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie</span> and Ross Cockrell. Let’s look at Webb as we near the end of our profiles of the 90 players the Giants will bring to training camp.</p>

<h2 id="pwL0kY">2017 season</h2>
<p id="tbwfek">Webb signed with the <a href="https://www.windycitygridiron.com/">Chicago Bears</a>, but did not make the team. Released at the end of the preseason, Webb didn’t hook on with anyone until joining the <a href="https://www.dawgsbynature.com/">Cleveland Browns</a> for the final couple of weeks of the season. He never played in any games.</p>

<p id="sjBH0b">The cornerback picture for the Giants looks like this — <span>Janoris Jenkins</span>, <span>Eli Apple</span> ... then what? The Giants took the unusual step of using a third-round pick on Sam Beal in the Supplemental Draft, but they still have questions at the position.</p>
<p id="0q40b3">The Giants are hoping Webb can be part of the answer. The 28-year-old has played in 49 NFL games, starting 10, with four teams. He started eight games for the <a href="https://www.canalstreetchronicles.com/">New Orleans Saints</a> in 2016, making an interception and defending 11 passes.</p>
<p id="ABWJmY">Can Webb emerge with a roster spot? Perhaps, but the nagging question is why no one really came calling for Webb until the 2017 season was nearly over.</p>

<p>Change in defensive scheme could unlock Vernon’s first double-digit sack performance since 2013</p> <p id="jTXWVu">The <a href="https://www.bigblueview.com/">New York Giants</a> had big expectations when, in 2016, they inked defensive end <span>Olivier Vernon</span> to a monster five-year, $85 million contract with $52.5 million guaranteed.</p>
<p id="oSFzwX">Although on a quick glance, Vernon’s numbers don’t seem to justify the contract he has, he’s actually been one of the more productive players the Giants picked up via free agency since 2016 if one looks at his hidden production — sacks, pressures and hits. </p>
<p id="SGrkNg">Per Pro Football Focus, Vernon has accumulated 134 pressures (sacks, hits and hurries) since 2016, the year he signed with the Giants. </p>
<p id="f2Hjds">Only Cameron Jordan, Vernon’s former teammate in Miami, has finished with more pressures among 4-3 defensive ends over that same period, posting 143. </p>
<p id="LPLNAx">Per Pro Football Focus, Vernon, in an injury-shortened 2017 season, pressured opposing quarterbacks on <a href="https://twitter.com/PFF_Giants/status/1005933374639394816">10.1 percent of their dropbacks</a>. </p>
<h2 id="udVCEt">2017 season in review</h2>
<p id="zdV7HG">The 2017 season wasn’t very kind to Vernon, who missed the first regular-season games in his career after suffering a high ankle sprain during a Week 3 road-game loss to the Eagles. </p>
<p id="KupgA1">Although Vernon tried to gut out the injury, he still finished the season logging a career low 59 tackles (37 solo) in 12 games with two fewer sacks (6.5) than he recorded the year prior while recording just <a href="https://go.redirectingat.com?id=66960X1641761&xs=1&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.profootballfocus.com%2Fdata%2Fsignature.php%3Ftab%3Dsignature%26season%3D2017%26pos%3D4dp%26teamid%3D-1%26filter%3D50%26conf%3D-1%26yr%3D-1%26wk%3D1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-9-10-11-12-13-14-15-16-17&referrer=sbnation.com&sref=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.bigblueview.com%2F2018%2F7%2F19%2F17468764%2Fny-giants-90-man-roster-preview-olivier-vernon-linebacker-poised-to-have-monster-year" rel="sponsored nofollow noopener" target="_blank">38 total pressures</a> (sacks, hits and hurries).</p>
<p id="wDsmRv">The problem with Vernon hasn’t been the efforts; it’s been his usage. Per Pro Football Focus snap counts, Vernon has played in <a href="https://go.redirectingat.com?id=66960X1641761&xs=1&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.profootballfocus.com%2Fdata%2Fby_player.php%3Ftab%3Dby_player%26season%3D2016%26pre%3DREG%26page%3D0%26surn%3Dvernon%26playerid%3D7074&referrer=sbnation.com&sref=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.bigblueview.com%2F2018%2F7%2F19%2F17468764%2Fny-giants-90-man-roster-preview-olivier-vernon-linebacker-poised-to-have-monster-year" rel="sponsored nofollow noopener" target="_blank">1,810 of the 1,985 defensive snaps</a> for which he’s been active (91.1 percent). That’s an unusually high percentage of snaps for a guy whose career average is 76.4 percent.</p>
<p id="VXGLlP">While some might argue that the Giants are trying to get their money’s worth out of Vernon, in reality they haven’t done him any favors by putting such a heavy workload on his shoulders. </p>
<p id="ZxK1b8">General manager Dave Gettleman alluded to this during one of his draft press conferences (without mentioning Vernon by name), noting that when a team has a lack of depth at a position, the alternative is to run the starters out there until they fall apart. </p>
<p id="aUqBcn">Sure enough, since coming to the Giants, Vernon, who since 2013 was only listed on the Dolphins injury report four times, mostly for minor issues, has <a href="https://www.foxsports.com/nfl/olivier-vernon-player-injuries">nearly doubled his appearances on the injury report</a> in two seasons with the Giants. </p>
<h2 id="CyqHMy">2018 outlook</h2>
<p id="nXOO1A">Not only have the Giants added more depth to the defensive line/outside linebacker rotation which, if it plays out as hoped should reduce Vernon’s snaps to somewhere in the mid to high 70 percent range, a position switch to outside linebacker in defensive coordinator James Bettcher’s new system has many people drooling over his potential production. </p>
<p id="6tuv6N">While Vernon is not the same player as Chandler Jones, Vernon appears to have been asked to play that same type of role, one that he has happily embraced and one in which he’s not only looked comfortable performing, but one in which he seems to have taken to given the speed in which he’s flown around the field during the spring to make plays. </p>
<p id="H8090v">There is also optimism that Vernon could reach double-digit sacks, as Jones did in each of his two seasons with Bettcher as his defensive coordinator. </p>
<p id="qrXfyZ">While sacks are the ultimate goal, the Giants would also probably be happy if Vernon’s total pressures (sacks, hits and hurries) lands him in the top-10 among his peers at his position as has been the case for Jones.</p>
<p id="Ic9MX5">The foundation is certainly in place for Vernon; now all he needs to do is find a way to stay out of the trainer’s room and on the field. </p>
