The Giants' GM took the blame for the state of the Giants' roster, now he's ready to build for the future.

The week following the end of the 2015 season was a rough one for the New York Giants. They had to part ways with a long-time, beloved, and very well respected head coach after their third consecutive losing season. And while the parting was about as amicable as could be expected, general manager Jerry Reese appeared defensive when challenged on his personnel and draft decisions.

Following new head coach Ben McAdoo's introductory press conference, Reese was much more definitive in taking the blame for personnel failures.

New coach "introduced" this morning.

Ben McAdoo will hold his first press conference as head coach of the New York Giants on Friday at 10:30 a.m. ET. You can watch the proceedings via the live stream on Giants.com.

This isn't exactly an "introductory" press conference. McAdoo, after all, has been the team's offensive coordinator for two years. We know him. We know what kind of offense he runs. We know some things about his personality. There are a lot of things we still don't know about the Giants new head coach, and how he plans to try and shake the Giants out of their recent malaise. Thus, the press conference should be interesting.

Here are a few of things I will be watching for when McAdoo steps to the podium.

Can he command a room? The media has gotten glimpses of McAdoo the past couple of years, short sessions weekly during the regular season and a quick press conference here and there during training camp or offseason workouts. This will be the biggest stage McAdoo has ever been on. Can he take charge of the room? Can he sound confident, like a guy who can take charge of a full team? Can he placate a hungry New York media that, from his clipped, generic answers over the past two years, already has doubts about how well he will work with them?

Will he retain play-calling duties? All indications are that he will, and that makes sense given his coaching background. He learned from Mike McCarthy with the Green Bay Packers, and maintaining play-calling duties would follow the McCarthy model. My guess is that while McAdoo has learned a great deal about coaching and motivating from Tom Coughlin that his style will more closely follow the McCarthy model.

What will he say about assistant coaches? There has been a lot of speculation about Steve Spagnuolo, Mike Sullivan, and Joe Philbin. Let's see if McAdoo addresses the structure of the staff.

What about the defense? Will McAdoo give any hints about how the Giants will address their defensive shortcomings, or about what style of defense he would like to see? He has never been a defensive coach so how he approaches that side of the ball will be interesting.

Those are just a few of the things I will be listening for. What will you be listening for? If you can't watch the press conference live, use the Twitter stream below to follow along. Alos, be sure to check back with Big Blue View once the press conference is over as we will continue our coverage of the beginning of the McAdoo era.

Eli wins. Eagles lose.

The Ben McAdoo era as head coach of the New York Giants is officially less than a day old. Because we live in an instant gratification world and everyone loves to rush to judgment let's look at some early winners and losers from the Giants decision to promote McAdoo.

Winners

Eli Manning

We know from his emotional reaction at the farewell press conference that Manning did not want to see Tom Coughlin leave. Since Coughlin is gone, though, this worked out as well as it possibly could have for the Giants quarterback. He gets to stay in an offense that has helped him have two terrific statistical seasons. He gets a head coach he trusts. If reports are correct that Mike Sullivan will be elevated to offensive coordinator that is another win for Manning because he has a long-term working relationship with Sullivan. In the end, this was the best-case scenario for Manning.

Mike Sullivan

Some Giants' assistant coaches will be looking for work. Sullivan is looking at a promotion. Sullivan actually interviewed for the offensive coordinator job two years ago when McAdoo got it. He was even considered the front-runner at one time. McAdoo and Sullivan have worked together for only a year, but for McAdoo to elevate him there is obviously trust there. Even if word that McAdoo will continue to call the plays is correct, this is a big step forward for Sullivan.

Steve Spagnuolo

After coordinating the worst defense in the league in 2015 indications are that Spags will get another chance. There probably aren't a lot of organizations that would have given him that. Spagnuolo really didn't have much of a chance to succeed in 2015. Let's see if Jerry Reese can give him more to work with next season.

Losers

Philadelphia Eagles

This is not a shot at Doug Pederson, who will be named Eagles head coach. It really isn't even a shot at the Eagles. Reality is, though, that from everything we know the Pederson hire is not the one the Eagles truly wanted to make. They reportedly wanted McAdoo, but the Giants cut them off at the pass. Then they thought they had Coughlin, but that didn't happen either. The Daily News details how the Giants essentially prevented Coughlin from taking the Eagles job by making it impossible for Coughlin to build the coaching staff he would have liked. Pederson could end up being a great hire for the Eagles, but even our friends over at Bleeding Green Nation seem to understand this did not work out the way the Eagles wanted it to.

Doug Marrone, Mike Smith

These two veteran NFL coaches interviewed for and were apparently under serious consideration for the Giants' job. The Tennessee Titans' coaching vacancy is now the only one left and reports have indicated that the Titans could bring New England Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels on as head coach. So, Marrone and Smith could get shut out.

Now that Ben McAdoo is the Giants' head coach, what questions will he have to answer?

The New York Giants have answered the question looming over their franchise since the before the end of the 2015 regular season. Ben McAdoo has succeeded Tom Coughlin as the Giants new head coach. But as so often happens in life, answering one question just spawns more.

What questions will McAdoo have to answer now that he's the man in charge?

1. How Will He Use His Personnel?

John Mara and Jerry Reese's post-season press conferences confirmed what we already knew. While the Giants have done a good job of finding talent at the top of the draft, they haven't gotten much from their middle and late round picks. Nobody out here has any clue how much of that is at the feet of the scouting department for picking the players, and how much rests at the feet of the coaching staff for developing the players selected.

But will McAdoo be able to work in concert with Jerry Reese?

They will need to be able to pick the right players for what McAdoo wants to accomplish, and then play them to their strengths, rather than not play them because of their weaknesses.

2. What Will He Do About The Assistants?

It has been reported that one reason why Tom Coughlin backed out of the Philadelphia Eagles' coaching search is because many of his trusted assistant coaches will be staying in New York. However, at least some of them are drawing interest elsewhere and there are also coaches who have drawn criticism for their units' performance. Will McAdoo make necessary moves to the coaching staff to replace losses and replace under-performing coaches?

And while the Giants have changed many facets of their strength and conditioning protocols over the last three years, they have also led the league in injuries each of those years. The situation is untenable, and McAdoo will have to find some way to get the injury situation under control.

3. How Will The Offense Run?

It was initially reported that former Miami Dolphins head coach and Green Bay Packers offensive coordinator would be brought on as McAdoo's offensive coordinator. Philbin still seems to have a role on McAdoo's staff, but it now appears that the offensive coordinator will be Mike Sullivan.

At first glance, it seems as though Philbin will have a similar role in New York as he had in Green Bay, as the offensive "Eyes In The Sky", and will be in communication with Mike Sullivan who will be calling the actual plays.

The other side of that question is about the offense itself. It has been suspected that despite McAdoo being the offensive coordinator, the offense the Giants ran in 2014 and 2015 was a (sometimes contentious) marriage between McAdoo' and Tom Coughlin's philosophies. How will the offense look now that the 38-year-old West Coast disciple is in charge?

4. Can They Fix The Defense?

The Giants are keeping Steve Spagnuolo in place, apparently giving him the opportunity to prove that he is the right man for the job. With a high draft pick and a lot of cap room, they have the resources to return the defense to the level at which they are expected to play. Will McAdoo give Spags free reign to rebuild his unit? Will he work with Spags to offer insight from an offensive perspective? How much of the Giants' resources will he use to fill the Giants' offensive holes?

5. Can He Run A Whole Team?

This is the biggie. Can McAdoo -- who only has two years' worth of experience as a coordinator -- run a whole team? He has been lauded as a hard-working, meticulous, and relationship-driven coach, all of which bode well. However, the fact remains that he is inexperienced. Will he be able to cope with vastly expanded responsibilities? Will he be able to deal with a full roster full of personalities, not to mention his stable of coaches? And almost uniquely "New York", will McAdoo be able to deal with the media? The New York fishbowl isn't given to honeymoon periods, and McAdoo having been in the organization for the last two years likely means that he won't get one.

Can McAdoo run a flagship team, and win quickly enough to keep the wolves from his door?

Former Miami Dolphins head coach Joe Philbin, who was originally reported to be getting that job, is still expected to be part of McAdoo's staff in some capacity.

Everything the Giants are doing right now is about maximizing the twilight of Eli Manning's career, and because of that promoting Sullivan seems like an excellent move.

Sullivan has served two stints as a Giants assistant. He was with the Giants from 2004-2011, first coaching wide receivers and for the last two seasons of that tenure coaching Manning and the quarterbacks. He was Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive coordinator in 2012 and 2013, then returned to the Giants as quarterbacks coach last season. Manning has done some of his best work with Sullivan at his side.

Sullivan learned offensive football from former Giants offensive coordinator Kevin Gilbride, and ran a Gilbride-style system for two years in Tampa Bay. The expectation would be, of course, that Sullivan will run the McAdoo system going forward.

As for Philbin, this is the latest:

Could McAdoo have been Eagles' coach?

One of the interesting sub-plots of the New York Giants' promotion of Ben McAdoo from offensive coordinator to head coach is the idea that the NFC East rival Philadelphia Eagles might well have hired McAdoo if the Giants had not. How close did the Eagles get to snatching McAdoo out from under the Giants?

Maybe we will never know the answer. That doesn't mean we can't speculate.

There was this tweet from Eagles' reporter Jeff McLane on Wednesday night:

#Eagles were in on Ben McAdoo and we're ready to hire the new Giants head coach, according to two NFL sources.

— Jeff McLane (@Jeff_McLane) January 14, 2016

Another Eagles writer, Derrick Gunn, said Philadelphia "had a lot of interest" in McAdoo as their next head coach.

Why was Philadelphia so intrigued by McAdoo? Perhaps because they thought he might be the next Andy Reid. ESPN analyst Louis Riddick thinks that is one of the reasons the Giants hired him:

"You know Eli is in the twilight of his career, you don't want to waste those years trying to get him comfortable with someone else,'' Riddick said. "[McAdoo] could be the next Andy Reid. He could be that next superstar young coach who you can have around for 10, 12 years, and that's really what the Giants are like. That's what they want to do, they're like the Steelers, those kind of franchises that exude stability. If you are going to take a chance on someone, take a chance on someone you know a lot about.''

With the Giants having hired McAdoo, and the Eagles now apparently having serious discussions with ex-Giants coach Tom Coughlin, it is ironic to think of Coughlin as a potential consolation prize for the Eagles.
