New York Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz, still shut down due to a calf injury suffered early in the preseason, will not practice on Thursday. It sounds as if Cruz will not play Sunday vs. the Atlanta Falcons, and could be sidelined much longer than that.

"They're not even at the stage where they're really going to bring him out and turn him loose," head coach tom Coughlin said on Thursday. "If he comes back and he practices well we'll have to make a decision. First let's get him back."

Cruz, trying to come back from a torn patellar tendon, has not practiced since August 17 due to the calf injury. That means he has not been allowed to run for a full month. You begin to wonder if short-term IR has become a realistic option for Cruz, who appears nowhere near actually playing in a game.

Head coach Tom Coughlin said middle linebacker Jon Beason, sidelined by a knee injury since the first preseason game, would do some individual work and "we'll have an idea what's gonna happen there," Coughlin said.

Injury Report

Cruz (calf, DNP)
MLB Jon Beason (knee, limited)
DE Owa Odighizuwa (foot, DNP) He was spotted with a boot on his right foot.
TE Daniel Fells (foot, DNP)
OT Ereck Flowers (ankle, full practice)
MLB Uani 'Unga (knee, full practice)
DT Markus Knee (knee, DNP)

Coughlin on Ereck Flowers:

"Basically, he said I'm playing and I'm practicing. So, I mean, it's a breath of fresh air," Coughlin said. "Guy has an ankle. Oh, well."

Falcons' Jones sits out

Julio Jones, star wide receiver for the Falcons, has not practice this week due to a hamstring injury.
