The New York Giants played Monday against the Cincinnati Bengals without starting left guard Justin Pugh. That will continue to be the case Sunday against the Chicago Bears. Then, after one series the Giants lost replacement starter Brett Jones to a calf injury.
That meant Marshall Newhouse moved in at left guard, with Adam Gettis rotating in when Newhouse moved to the jumbo tight end when the Giants went to a heavy set. Well, Gettis showed on the Wednesday injury report with a calf injury of his own. Head coach Ben McAdoo had no real information on whether Jones or Gettis would be available to play Sunday.
“He (Gettis) was moving around a little bit in the jog through but he and Brett, we'll have to evaluate as the week goes on,” McAdoo said.
If Pugh, Jones and Gettis are not available, the only extra lineman the Giants have on the 53-man roster would be Will Beatty. Signed late in the preseason, Beatty has not played a snap since 2014.
The Giants do have two linemen on their practice, tackle Laurence Gibson and guard Jon Halapio. Moving one to the active roster, though, would require dropping a player.
