EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- Technically, you could say that center Weston Richburg and left tackle Ereck Flowers practiced on Friday. Take that, Shaun O'Hara! The reality, though, is that he New York Giants barely practiced at all on Day 7 of training camp. The Giants held a walk-thru in shorts and t-shirts that lasted roughly 50 minutes.
Friday's practice was closed to the public, and that is probably a good thing. If fans had attended, they would likely have felt they wasted their time.
What did we learn? Let's look
Coughlin anticipates talking to Jason Pierre-Paul
Head coach Tom Coughlin said after practice that he has a "premonition" he will finally get to speak via telephone with defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul, perhaps as soon as Friday night. Coughlin anticipated that the conversation would happen by the end of the week.
Pierre-Paul, who lost a finger as a result of a Fourth of July fireworks accident, recently spoke with GM Jerry Reese via phone. He has also been in contact with defensive line coach Robert Nunn and with some teammates.
DL coach Robert Nunn on JPP
Nunn has had some communication with Pierre-Paul, and sumamrized it this way:
"I've spoken to him on the phone. I've texted him back and forth and mostly about things other than football. The first thing you know, it's been talked about before, and it was a tragic thing that happened, major accident. Everybody has their beliefs on what happened, what should have happened, and make of it what they want to, but the guy went through a tough thing. It was a tough situation to be in so when I talk to him we talk more about where he is from a mental standpoint. I texted him back and forth, just to let him know that we're here for him. Whatever he needs, we're here for him, and his response has been, "Coach, I'm good, I want to get myself right, and I'll be back." That's kind of where it stands. I don't know any more than what you guys know from that standpoint. Most of my conversations with him have been about things other than football."
