Giants training camp 2015: "Two good days" with Bengals, says Coughlin

Coach assesses joint practices, talks about preseason opener.

New York Giants head coach Tom Coughlin said after Wednesday's practice that he was happy with the two joint sessions with the Cincinnati Bengals. "It's been two good days," the coach said.

Here are some of the other topics the coach addressed.

Beckham, Eli will play; Cruz won't

Coughlin said that wide receiver Victor Cruz, who took some reps vs. Bengals defenders on Wednesday, will not play in the preseason opener on Friday. Odell Beckham Jr. and Eli Manning will. Coughlin said he didn't know if Rueben Randle, who skipped Wednesday's session with knee tendinitis, would play Friday.

Starters will play one or two series on Friday. "That's usually what it is," Coughlin said.

Bennett Jackson gets work at slot corner

Bennett Jackson, competing for one of the two starting safety spots, is also getting a look at the nickel corner. That is where he spent most fo Wednesday's practice.

"We are looking for someone to be the nickel. We're trying a number of people in there, and he's got his shot," Coughlin said.

'Comeuppance' for Ereck Flowers

Reports on Tuesday were that rookie left tackle Ereck Flowers had a good day. Coughlin was pleased with the fact that he practiced on Wednesday, but not with the rookie's performance in the final two-minute drill of the day.

"There's a come-uppance here with that last two-minute drill where nobody's playing run at all and they just turned the front loose," Coughlin said. "He saw all kinds of games. They've got a good front. Hopefully he'll learn a lot from that."
