Giants training camp: Live updates, 7/31

First practice set for Friday afternoon.

Steven Ryan-USA TODAY Sports

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- The New York Giants practice field Friday for their first official workout of their 2015 training camp. Practice at Quest Diagnostics Training Center, directly across the parking lot from MetLife Stadium, begins at 2:30 p.m. It is free and open to the public.

The Giants haven't even practiced, but things are already interesting at the Quest Diagnostics Training Center. Here are five things we have already learned.

-- We learned that Victor Cruz and Odell Beckham will practice, and that Will Beatty and Ben Edwards will be on the PUP list.

-- We learned that John Mara is really annoyed with the whole Jason Pierre-Paul situation. Well, we knew that already but Mara made it clear he isn't letting his frustration go anytime soon.

-- We learned that the Giants are still seriously trying to upgrade their roster. They are expected to sign wide receiver James Jones, who is familiar with offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo from their days with the Green Bay Packers, provided he passes a physical on Friday. The Giants also had offensive tackle Jake Long in for a workout on Wednesday, and signing him remains a possibility.

-- We learned that Justin Pugh expects to remain at guard for the foreseeable future.

-- Finally, we learned that Cruz really knows how to embarrass a reporter.

What will we learn today?

Well, it's too soon to tell. We will let you know, of course, if and when the Jones signing becomes official. Yours truly will be at practice and will have a practice report afterwards. Not sure how much tweeting I will do during practice, but follow the updated Twitter stream below for updates from a variety of beat writers and other media sources. We will also have plenty of other posts throughout the day for you, so keep it here as the Giants get the ball rolling toward the 2015 season.

Eli, Odell to speak to reporters

The Giants have scheduled quarterback Eli Manning and wide receiver Odell Beckham to speak to the media prior to practice. We will have updates on those this afternoon, and via the @bigblueview Twitter account.
