The New York Giants will be getting Shane Vereen back from the injured reserve Sunday night when they take on the Dallas Cowboys, but they will be without two of their best players in Jason Pierre-Paul and Justin Pugh.
Pierre-Paul has already been ruled out after getting surgery this week to repair a core muscle injury suffered last week against the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Giants could be dangerously thin at defensive end, with Owamagbe Odighizuwa ruled out as he recovers from a knee sprain that kept him out against the Steelers. It had been thought that Odighizuwa would be able to play, but that obviously isn’t the case.
Joining JPP in being already ruled out are safety Nat Berhe, and linebacker Mark Herzlich, both of whom are still in the concussion protocol.
The Giants will also be without left guard Justin Pugh who is still recovering from a knee sprain. There had been some optimism that he would be able to return this week, but the Giants have opted to give him another week rather than risk a long-term set-back.
