As had been speculated for several, the New York Giants have activated running back Shane Vereen in time for Sunday night’s game against the Dallas Cowboys. Offensive lineman Adam Gettis has been waived to clear a spot on the 53-man roster for Vereen.
The veteran running back is the Giants’ third-down specialist, and he caught 59 passes last season. He has not played since suffering a torn triceps injury Week 3 against the Washington Redskins. His totals for the first three games were 31 carries for 147 yards (4.7-yard average), and eight receptions for 75 yards
Gettis played in three games this season, and started at left guard two weeks ago in the Giants’ victory in Cleveland.
Rashad Jennings and rookie Paul Perkins have been splitting time at running back in recent weeks. How Vereen will fit into the picture isn’t clear, although coach Ben McAdoo said earlier in the week that the Giants would “have a package” for Vereen provided he was able to play.
The news isn’t as good when it comes to guard Justin Pugh.
#Giants LG Justin Pugh listed as questionable, but I'm told he won't play Sunday night vs. Cowboys, per source.

Do not want another setback.
