One of the story lines for the New York Giants tracing its way through the eight days between Sunday’s win over the Philadelphia Eagles and tonight’s game against the Cincinnati Bengals has been the health of Victor Cruz.
Cruz left Sunday’s game with a sprained ankle after a 46-yard reception to put the Giants in scoring position. While Giants fans held their breath over the fan favorite’s health, tests confirmed that the injury is a mild one.
There was some optimism that Cruz might be able to play, but the low-ankle sprain is going to keep him off the field tonight. Cruz has officially been listed among the team's inactives.
The full list is Cruz, quarterback Josh Johnson, cornerback Leon Hall, offensive tackle Will Beatty, offensive guard Justin Pugh, defensive end Kerry Wynn, linebacker Deontae Skinner.
Taking Cruz’s place will likely be a combination of Roger Lewis, another undrafted free agent who is making an impact in his rookie season, and Dwayne Harris, who filled in for Cruz in 2015. Brett Jones will start in Pugh's spot at left guard.
Cruz had already seen his workload decline after the Giants’ bye week, as the coaches sought to keep him fresh for a late-season push after missing two seasons of football.
