Veteran New York Post sports columnist Steve Serby drops by the ‘Valentine’s Views’ podcast to talk about the New York Giants. Some of what we discussed:
- George Young finally being elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Serby said that was “long overdue.” He also told the story of how Tim Mara wanted Gil Brandt to become Giants GM rather than Young.
- Serby says every new head coach should win their introductory press conference, which Joe Judge did last week. Interestingly, Serby said Judge reminded him not of Tom Coughlin, but of Bill Parcells.
- The retaining of Dave Gettleman as GM was no surprise considering both Gettleman’s roots in the organization and the Giants’ reluctance to replace general managers.
- Serby said Eli Manning is “a first ballot Hall of Famer in my view.”
