Initial reaction to the reports that the New York Giants are hiring Patrick Graham as defensive coordinator have been mixed. That’s because Graham has only one year under his belt as a coordinator and the Miami Dolphins defense he ran was the league’s worst.
Ed reminds that former coordinator James Bettcher had a top-rate unit for three years with the Arizona Cardinals before flopping with the Giants, so simply going by prior statistics is not always a good way to decide whether a hire was a good one or not.
Justin Hier of SB Nation’s The Phinsider tells us that the Miami defense “did get better” under Graham’s tutelage and that his schemes do have “adaptability” that should appeal to new head choach Joe Judge.
