Giants’ constant O-line shuffling in camp doesn’t inspire hope problem has been fixed | The Athletic
With the Giants nearing the three-week mark of camp, questions still linger about the line. The five projected starters for the season opener have not taken a single practice rep together. One of the projected starters, Greg Van Roten, signed a week into camp.
With Schmitz’s return on the horizon, coach Brian Daboll has redeployed the rotations he’s used in the past. In Monday’s practice, Van Roten started each 11-on-11 team period at center with Aaron Stinnie at right guard. After two plays, Van Roten moved to right guard and Austin Schlottmann came in at center. After two more plays, Schlottmann stayed at center and Stinnie returned to right guard.
Giants work out veteran safety
Former #Chargers safety Raheem Layne worked out for #Giants today, per a league source. Has made full recovery from torn ACL suffered last October, fully cleared medically for surgery from Dr. Neil ElAttrache. Played in five games last season with one start. @KPRC2 https://t.co/sk0Byen7uz

Giants’ Tyler Nubin, back from injury, is making plays — and pushing for Xavier McKinney’s old job | NJ.com
The ball sailed toward Tyler Nubin in the end zone — a desperate heave from Tommy DeVito during Monday’s Giants training camp practice.
But it slipped through Nubin’s hands and fell incomplete. Nubin was annoyed with himself, having missed a perfectly good chance for his second interception of the day. So as he jogged back to the sideline, he dropped down and did a few pushups, punishing himself for the mistake, even though nobody asked him to do that.
NY Giants Rookie Report: Where does the Class of 2024 stand right now? | The Record
Jake Kubas offers up this self-scouting report of the undrafted offensive lineman from North Dakota State who has opened eyes with his toughness since arriving with the New York Giants back in the spring.
“I might not be the prettiest, I might not be the most athletic, I’m not a freak left tackle or anything,” said Kubas. “But I like to say, if I were a candle, I’m gonna burn the longest. I’m gonna go longer than everybody else. I won’t quit until the job’s done.”
John Michael Schmitz Feeling Like Himself Again | SI.com
The bigger challenge is building chemistry with two new guards on either side of him, including one, Greg Van Roten, who wasn’t with the team during the spring.
“Obviously to develop chemistry, you got to be out there,” he said. “But it doesn’t only happen on the field. It happens in the film room. It happens off the field. It happens with relationships–guys going to dinner. It’s just little things like that. Getting to know the person. When things get tough, this is what you do it for.”

What We Learned: Devin Singletary having fun back in Brian Daboll's offense | Giants.com
"It's fun to be back in this offense," the veteran back said. "I feel like I'm gelling with the guys good. ... Man, you can do everything [in this system]. You can catch the ball out of the backfield. They're going to hand you the ball off, obviously. You've got to be able to pass pro, but for me, pass pro is fun. I miss playing defense, so that's the way of me to get that feeling to be able to hit somebody. But that's the way it's fun for a running back."
Ranking all 32 RB1s heading into 2024 NFL season | NFL.com
32. Devin Singletary. The Giants were poised to take a step back in the run game the second Saquon Barkley left for the rival Eagles. Singletary was fine in Houston last season, posting career highs in carries and yards, but he won’t demand attention from opposing defenses. Plus, I question whether New York did enough to boost its offensive line. Big Blue’s run game faces an uphill battle.
One thing we learned about every team in Week 1 of 2024 NFL preseason | CBSSports.com
Saquon Barkley’s replacement might already be in tow. Obviously Barkley is a special talent, but second-year reserve Eric Gray showed a lot of sizzle as a multipurpose option, indicating he might be ready for a larger role alongside new starting running back Devin Singletary.

7 New York Giants on the bubble with most to gain vs. Houston Texans | USAToday.com
With all the young wide receivers the Giants have in camp garnering the spotlight, Isaiah Hodgins has been flying under the radar a bit. He shouldn’t be. He was targeted just twice and did not have a reception against Detroit. That is no reflection on him. He is still a viable option in the passing game but needs to make some plays here in the preseason to keep his spot on the roster safe.
The compelling potential Malik Nabers presents for Giants offense | New York Post
“I have absolute confidence in the way he’s going to perform,’’ Groh said after practice recently. “He hasn’t given us any reason to doubt the kind of competitor and the kind of player he is. He’s risen to every challenge. I read that we threw him the ball 11 times in the two practices against Detroit and he caught 10 of them. That’s a pretty good percentage.’’

2024 NFL Roster Bubble: Biggest Names Who Could Be Cut | Bleacher Report
The Texans surrendered a second-round pick to land Stefon Diggs—plus a 2024 sixth-rounder and a 2025 fifth-rounder—so his roster spot should be secure. Robert Woods' place likely hinges on how Houston weighs his leadership against the cost of keeping him for another season. Releasing the 32-year-old would save just under $5 million in 2024 cap space.
The Houston Texans held their lone night practice of training camp on Sunday | HoustonTexans.com
Sunday night was a fun one for the Texans. They practiced back at the Houston Methodist Training Center for the first time in nearly two weeks. The Texans flew to Ohio for the Hall of Fame Game two Thursdays ago, and then spent the week after the game practicing in the Cleveland area. A Thursday bus trip to Pittsburgh followed, with the game on Friday night, and the flight home to Houston after the Texans beat the Steelers at Acrisure Stadium.
