New York Giants punter Jame Gillan capped an excellent 2023-24 season by being named the NFC Special Teams Player of the Week for his performance Week 18 against the Philadelphia Eagles.

The honor for Gillan meant the Giants finish the season with back-to-back winners of the weekly special teams honor. Punt returner Gunner Olszewski received the award in Week 17 after returning a punt 94 yards for a touchdown against the Los Angeles Rams.

Gillan, nicknamed ‘The Scottish Hammer,’ punted five times against the Eagles, with four of those being downed inside the 20-yard line. He averaged 45.6 yards per punt, with a net average of 44.0. His longest punt was 55 yards.

Gillan led the NFC with a career-high 35 of his 95 punts downed inside the 20-yard line this season, 36.8%. He also set a career best with an average of 42.2 net yards per punt. Just 4.2% of his punts went for touchbacks, after 12.2% touchbacks in 2022.

Gillan was one of three Giants to be honored as a player of the week in 2023. Quarterback Tommy DeVito was the NFC Offensive Player of the Week after leading the Giants to a Monday night victory against Green Bay on Dec. 11 (Week 14).
