Dreadz ‘23 Mock Draft v1.0

Welcome all ye fellow blue kool-aid drinkers! Hope you enjoy my first mock of this year and I’m looking forward to probably 2 or 3 more! This mock was done using PFN’s draft simulator, and while I generally like the trade offers, I think their draft board isn’t up to date all the way, so this will definitely be a tad more unrealistic than the next couple versions (all of them are unrealistic, but let me have hope!)

Round 1: Nolan Smith Edge GA

This is probably going to be the most controversial pick, partly because I don’t think that Edge is a big enough need to warrant picking one in the 1st round, but also, I don’t believe Smith will even be here to even contemplate taking him. I chose Smith because of his freaky athletic ability and how that should translate quite well in getting after the QB in sub packages. Azeez Ojulari dealt with a few injuries and I want to add a player who can be insurance for him as well as who would give defenses headaches whenever he is on the field. Other players considered were: Jalin Hyatt, Zay Flowers, Trenton Simpson, Drew Sanders, Calaijah Kancey, and BJ Ojulari.

Round 2: Julius Brents CB KState

A tall, Uber-athletic cb, who looks like he could end up being a cb1 solely based off his traits alone. I am definitely more biased towards players with elite athletic profiles at premium positions and just hoping the coaching staff can develop the player’s technique and mental aspects of the game. Other players considered: Gervon Dexter, Steve Avila, Clark Phillips III, Noah Sewell, and Kayshon Boutte.

Round 3: Jordan Battle S Bama

I think Battle would do well pairing with McKinney in the backfield and give us two safeties who can do everything at least adequately. I think Wink should have no issues running whatever plays his mind can imagine with a revamped secondary. Other players considered: AT Perry, Tyler Scott, Daiyan Henley, Henry To’o To’o, and Jarrett Patterson.

Round 4: Jonathan Mingo WR Ole Miss

Hey look, a big and fast receiver, hopefully those looking for a receiver with the first two picks haven’t already beat me up in their minds. This pick satisfies both one of the Giant’s needs at supplementing the WR room with another young talent, but I think Mingo gives us what most have probably been asking for for a while; a big-bodied receiver who can win on the outside. He has plenty of straight line speed and the size and muscle mass to hopefully develop into a player who can go up and come down with tough contested catches in a regular basis if need be. Other players considered: Ricky Stromberg, Mohamoud Diabate, Olusegun Oluwatimi, and Tyjae Spears.

Round 5: Tyjae Spears RB Tulane

Giants need a RB2 and if he’s good enough for Ed, he’s good enough for me. Unfortunately, neither of the centers fell and I’m definitely feeling some regret. Other players considered: Mohamoud Diabate, Colby Wooden, Nathaniel Dell, Eric Gray, Kei’Trel Clark, and Roschon Johnson.

Round 5: Mohamoud Diabate LB Utah

It was either fortify the line backing corps or fortify the dline with Colby Wooden. This one was a coin flip and I decided to send out a hope that between Diabate, McFadden, and Beavers that someone could adequately man the other off ball linebacker position next to Okereke.

Thats all for now, please feel free to leave your thoughts and criticisms in the comments!
