PFF Mock
Round 1, #25: Calijah Kancey, DT, Pittsburgh: In most mocks I dislike the way the boards looks at 25, and this one was no different. All of the top WR and CB prospects were off the board (including Smith and Forbes!), with the exception of Zay Flowers. O'Cyrus Torrence went one pick earlier to the Jaguars. Kancey measures out at 6'0'' 280 which seemed small to me until I found out that Aaron Donald is 6'1'' 284. He had 7 sacks last year from inside and the Giants need to prepare for a future where Williams may not be around. No team was interested in trading up, so this is the pick at #25.
Also Considered: Bijan Robinson, RB; Drew Sanders, LB; Zay Flowers, WR: Will McDonald, Edge; Tyrique Stephenson, CB
Round 2: TRADE!
Giants Receive: #61, #64
Bears Receive: #57, #89, #208
The 2nd round feels like the sweet spot in my opinion in this draft with a ton of talent, so I really wanted an extra pick, and the Bears were happy to trade up to grab Steve Avila.
Also Considered: Steve Avila, G; Adetomiwa Adebawore, Edge; Eli Ricks, CB; Sydney Brown, S; DeMarvion Overshown, LB
Round 2, #61: Joe Tippmann, C, Wisconsin: I have heard that Schmitz is more polished, but he was off the board at #44. Similarly, I would target Campbell or Stevenson here but both are sadly off the board. One of the biggest remaining holes on the roster is at center, so getting one in the second that can potentially start day 1 feels like a good outcome.
Also Considered: Adetomiwa Adebawore, Edge; Eli Ricks, CB; Sydney Brown, S; DeMarvion Overshown, LB
Round 2: TRADE!
Giants Receive: #76, #107, #183
Patriots Receive: #64
Although I said the 2nd round seemed to be the strength of the draft, I didn't like the options available at #64 and decided to trade down a bit, picking up what I felt like was good value for 12 spots.
Also Considered: Adetomiwa Adebawore, Edge; Eli Ricks, CB; Sydney Brown, S; DeMarvion Overshown, LB
Round 3, #76: Eli Ricks, CB, Alabama: Corner is a big need. Although I said the 2nd round seemed to be the strength of the draft, I didn't like the options available at #64 and decided to trade down a bit. I am not sure if Ricks has the elite athleticism that Schoen desires, but he's a press man corner who could fit Wink's defense. In man coverage at Alabama, he allowed 9 catches on 34 targets for 171 yards on 347 press snaps in his career.
Also Considered: Adetomiwa Adebawore, Edge; DJ Turner, CB; Sam LaPorta, TE; A.T. Perry, WR; Noah Sewell, LB
Round 4, #107: Tyler Scott, WR, Cincinnati: Scott has eluded me in pretty much every mock I've ever done, so I am happy to get him here in the 4th round. Scott is an explosive athlete with speed. He's a boundary receiver who fits nicely with Waller and Robinson. He does have a history with drops. He's similar to Slayton but perhaps with more separation skills rather than just straight line speed.
Also Considered: Jammie Robinson, S, Nathaniel Dell WR, Michael Wilson, WR; Ji'ayir Brown, S
Round 4, #128: Ronnie Hickman, S, Ohio State: I preferred Jammie Robinson who went one pick before to the Jaguars. Hickman has good athleticism and is strong in the run game, with potential to improve in coverage. The Giants may not resign Julian Love.
Also Considered: Ivan Pace, LB; Tre'Vius Hodges-Tomlinson, CB
Round 5, #161: Dorian Williams, LB, Tulane: A coverage linebacker to pair with Okereke.
