There is no particular evidence for my pick, especially with the Packers playing so well in recent weeks. However, sometimes it takes an overlooked team to play spoiler. I’ve been wrong about the Giants the last two weeks, and I’m putting myself out there for a third consecutive time. However, I’m still not sold on Jordan Love.
At the start of the season I saw this as a game the Giants should win on their way to the playoffs. The Packers, though, have been better than anyone anticipated. Jordan Love has been a very effective QB in the past five weeks. His receiver-by-committee group is productive, although Christian Watson’s possible absence is a factor. The Packers’ defense is better than the two that Tommy DeVito was productive against the past two games. We don’t know how Brian Daboll’s choice of DeVito over Tyrod Taylor will affect the locker room come game time. Darren Waller’s not back yet, Dexter Lawrence might be. Too many uncertainties around the Giants this week. Green Bay legitimately sees a playoff berth within their grasp.
The Packers are one of the hottest teams in football and this is a tough match-up all the way around for the Giants. Jordan Love seems to be maturing and dealing well with pressure. He’s been accurate, efficient, and the Packers’ offense has been among the best in the NFL over the last month. Likewise, their defense is legit and the duo of Kenny Clark and Rashan Gary could be a problem for the Giants’ OL. The good news is that a Packers’ win delays the Cowboys and Eagles clinching the playoffs.
A couple of weeks ago this looked like a tossup game at home for the Giants. Now, with the Packers coming off a victory over the Chiefs and having won three straight, this one looks like another loss for the Giants. Can they manage not to embarrass themselves? They have done that several times on national TV this year.
