Giants star defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence has been dealing with a hamstring injury. Lawrence did not play Week 12 against the New England Patriots, and has played limited snaps in the team’s past two games. He did not practice on Wednesday as the Giants began preparing for their Christmas Day game against the Philadelphia Eagles.
Horne, 26, played in 17 games with five starts for the Falcons a season ago. He has played in three games this season, with four tackles and a pass defensed. He is a 6-foot-4, 323-pound former undrafted free agent out of Kansas State.
The Giants do have second-year defensive lineman Ryder Anderson on the practice squad, but chose to add Horne rather than promote him. Anderson played in seven game for the Giants last season.
Considering where the 5-9 Giants are in the standings, with a mathematical but unrealistic chance at reaching the playoffs, if Lawrence is struggling it doesn’t make sense to push him.
The Giants placed placekicker Randy Bullock (hamstring) on IR, which will end his season. Cade York, currently on the practice squad, will take over placekicking duties.
