The New York Giants are 2-0 against the Washington Commanders this year and 0-2 against the Dallas Cowboys, both outright and against the spread. On Christmas Day, they’ll face the Philadelphia Eagles on the road as their NFC East schedule begins to wrap up.
The Giants opened as 10.5-point underdogs at DraftKings Sportsbook, with +455 moneyline odds.
The over/under is just 43.5 points; only one of the Eagles’ last seven games has stayed under that point total.
Even though the spread is large, it arguably represents a decrease in bettors’ faith in the Eagles. The Giants were 16.5-point underdogs against the Eagles at the end of the 2022 regular season, even as New York was headed towards a playoff berth. New York covered the spread in that game but later lost to the Eagles in the postseason.
However, the Eagles have begun to falter after beginning 2023 with a 10-1 record. They recently lost two lopsided games to the Dallas Cowboys and San Francisco 49ers, which they’ll look to recover from against the Seattle Seahawks Monday night.
Philadelphia is 7-4-2 against the spread, and 6-2-2 as favorites. This is the first time this year they’ve been favored by 10 points or more.
The Giants are no stranger to huge spreads, but those low expectations usually turn out to be accurate. The Giants are 1-3 against the spread this year as double-digit underdogs.
However, New York has won three of its last four games despite being underdogs in each of those contests. Perhaps there’s still some magic remaining for an upset before the season ends.
Giants-Eagles kicks off at 1 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 25 as part of a three-game slate on Christmas Day.
