The relationship between New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll and defensive coordinator Wink Martindale is in a “bad place,” per a report attributed to Jay Glazer.

Per the report, tension has been building between the two and “there could be a mutual parting after the season and even potentially during these next weeks of the regular season.”

Daboll and Martindale had what seemed to be a heated conversation shortly before halftime with the Giants trailing the Dallas Cowboys 28-0. That conversation appeared to continue when the Giants emerged from the locker room before the start of the third quarter. Both Daboll and Martindale downplayed the situation. Martindale called it “nothing.”

Daboll hired Martindale to run the defense when he became head coach before the 2022 season. The Giants are 28th in the league defensively, giving up 25.9 points per game.

There was also a report recently that a shakeup of the Giants coaching staff could be coming at season’s end.

Martindale was exceptionally direct recently in addressing criticism from Xavier McKinney, saying that McKinney’s remarks about leaders “not really being heard.” Martindale said the comment hurt him personally and that such comments “hurts the locker room.”

Daboll prefers to keep things like that from spilling into the media.
