The New York Giants on Saturday filled the open spot on their 53-man roster by activating rookie running back Eric Gray from injured reserve.

Gray was placed on IR Oct. 24.

A fifth-round pick, Gray was primarily used as a punt and kickoff returner before going on IR. It was a role he struggled in. Gray returned seven punts for an average of 4.0 yards, but fumbled three times. He returned four kickoffs for an average of 14.5 yards.

The Giants have been using wide receiver Parris Campbell to return kickoffs, and he has excelled. Campbell is averaging 23.9 yards on eight returns, with a long return of 36 yards.

Gunner Olszewski was signed as a free agent to handle punt return duties, and he has been solid. Olszewski is averaging 9.5 yards on 11 punt returns.

As a running back, Gray has 13 carries for 27 yards (2.1 yards per carry), with one reception for a single yard.

The Giants did not announce any practice squad elevations for Sunday’s game against the New England Patriots.
