Giants-Patriots odds: New York still Week 12 underdog after beating Washington

Will the Giants ever be favored?

NFL: New England Patriots at Minnesota Vikings Jeffrey Becker-USA TODAY Sports

The New York Giants have not been the betting favorites in a game since beating the Arizona Cardinals in Week 2. Even coming off a win and facing the 2-8 New England Patriots, they’ll still be the underdogs.

The Giants opened as 3.5-point home underdogs at DraftKings Sportsbook. The Patriots are -185 moneyline favorites, and the over/under is set at an incredibly low 35 points.

At this point, it appears that oddsmakers have completely lost faith in the Giants. The Patriots are currently on a three-game losing streak that includes a defeat against the Washington Commanders — who the Giants just beat by 12 points on Sunday. Yet they’re still the favorites on the road this week, having never been favored by more than a field goal this year.

The Patriots are coming off a 10-6 loss to the Indianapolis Colts and have scored over 20 points just once this season. New England’s defense was impressive, considering the Colts had not scored fewer than 20 points in any game this year. However, quarterback Mac Jones disappointed again, this time with a costly fourth-quarter interception.

The Patriots have not covered the spread in any of their eight losses, and only three of their games have gone above the over/under point total.

New York just snapped a three-game losing streak behind three touchdown passes from undrafted rookie quarterback Tommy Devito. The Giants’ 31 points were more than the Patriots have scored in a game this year.

Devito also had 246 passing yards and no interceptions. While it might be too much to expect a similar performance this week, perhaps it’s an indication that the Giants’ offense will be more functional with Devito than originally anticipated.

Sunday’s game will also be important for the 2024 draft. The Giants and Patriots both currently hold top-five picks in the draft, but a Giants win could change that.
