I’ve been thinking about Joe Shoen’s recent comments about Nick and how "he could play in pre-season". On the face of it, that seems like a remarkable comeback story but it also got me thinking about the cynical, business-side of the NFL: if Nick were to play in the pre-season, would that mean that the Injury Insurance clause of his contract would become void (as he’s back playing again and thus "no longer injured"), meaning that the team could release him and save the $2.1M 2022 cap hit without the insurance clause kicking in? I’m hoping this isn’t the case and that he recovers well and quickly and is back on form for the New York Football Giants soon, but I would definitely like to know more about how this insurance clause works in reality.
