The New York Giants have lost another offensive lineman as the Las Vegas Raiders have signed offensive tackle Jackson Barton off of the Giants’ practice squad.

While this is undoubtedly a positive development for Barton — who immediately goes to the Raiders’ active roster — this puts the Giants in a bind.

They are already bumping up against questions of their offensive line depth after losing Shane Lemieux and Nick Gates to injury. Barton played well throughout the preseason and was arguably the team’s best reserve lineman. He was generally considered one of the roster bubble players with the best chances to make the final roster.

We have already heard that the Giants are cross-training offensive tackle Matt Peart inside at guard. Barton could have been candidate to be signed to the main roster once Nick Gates goes on the injured reserve.

We’ll have to see how the Giants’ fill Barton’s spot on the practice squad. It’s possible that the team will sign TE Ryan Izzo back to the practice squad to fill Barton’s spot after he was waived earlier on Tuesday.
