The (0-1) Washington Football Team will host the (0-1) New York Giants in an early-season NFC East showdown Thursday night.

This marks the 177th regular-season meeting between the two franchises, with the Giants holding a 104-68-4 series advantage. New York has won each of the past five meetings between the two clubs, including their last matchup in Week 9 of the 2020 season.

A Giants loss Thursday would make eight of nine seasons in which the Giants had started 0-2 or worse, and five straight seasons with that mark. On top of which, even with playoffs expanded to 14 teams, the odds of making the playoffs after starting 0-2 are long.

It’s not all roses for Washington, either. The Football Team dropped its first contest to the Chargers on Sunday. This week, Taylor Heinicke will start in place of WFT quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick, who is on injured reserve with a hip injury.
