Obviously, yesterday was a disaster, no two ways about it. That game did get me thinking, though. We’ve been blaming GM’s, Coaches ( Coughlin, MacAdoo, Shurmur, now Judge) , Offensive and Defensive Co-Ordinators, etc, for the last decade. Perhaps it’s time to put the blame squarely on the shoulders of the players.
we’ve all blamed Getty for not fixing our OL, but let’s step back a minute. Both tackles are 1st rounders, and one starting Guard is a second rounder, and yesterday we couldn’t block the Little Sisters of the Poor, run blocking OR pass blocking. That play where Miller was two steps into the backfield, and Peart hadn’t even moved out of his stance was just the living end. We blame Jones, but Dan Marino couldn’t make it behind this OL. How many OL Coaches have we had in the last ten years, since we had a good OL? Cripes, even Jim Brown in his prime couldn’t get yards the way we blocked yesterday. Certainly Saquon didn’t look like he’s recovered mentally, but the holes for him to run through were non-existent. Period.
We’ve lost the first two games before and recovered to win the Super Bowl, but Straham, Osi, Tuck, and JPP ain’t walking into that locker room. I’ve been Bleeding Blue since 1958, and I’m going to continue to do so, but this losing crap has to stop. I’m no longer asking for Lombardi wins, just for us to be competitive, and no way in hell were we competitive yesterday.
If this doesn’t stop, and darn quick, Getty’s going to be " retired" to Cape Cod, Judge will go back to be with Saban, Jones will be a backup someplace else, and we’ll have five more years of re-building with a new GM, new Coach, new QB, etc. I don’t know about you guys, but I’m darn sick of losing, and 2011 seems like more than a decade in the rear view mirror. I’m guessing most of us feel exactly the way I do.
