Dan Duggan of The Athletic is reporting that the New York Giants have placed tight end Rysen John and safety Quincy Wilson on the injured reserve list.

The moves are obviously disappointing for a pair of young players who impressed in Sunday's preseason game against the Cleveland Browns.

John flashed through the first two weeks of preseason, using his skills and background as a wide receiver to attack the middle of defenses. He came up with two of the Giants' biggest plays against the Browns with receptions of 25 and 29 yards up the middle. Unfortunately, he went down with an injury with just 14 seconds left in the game.

Duggan added in subsequent tweets that he has been told that John’s injury wasn’t season ending — that his ankle was rolled up on — and that he could rejoin the team at a later date if he’s released with an injury settlement.

Wilson had one of the other highlights of the afternoon when he came up with an interception on a poorly placed and ill-advised throw by Case Keenum.

The Giants have until 4 p.m. ET Tuesday to trim their roster from 85 to 80 players, so more roster moves are sure to follow.
