The New York Giants took advantage of expanded practice squad rules to keep long snapper Carson Tinker around as an insurance policy. Could that be the case again this season with expanded practice squads once again likely to be a reality?
Let’s talk about Tinker as we continue our player-by-player profiles of the 90-man roster the Giants will bring to training camp.
The basics
Height: 6-foot
Weight: 237
Age: 31
Position: Long snapper
Experience: 7
Contract: One-year, $998,500 | Guaranteed: $8,500 | 2021 cap hit: $858,500
Career to date
Tinker isn’t some kid hanging out on the practice squad in hopes of carving out a career. Last season was his seventh as an NFL player. He spent six years with the Jacksonville Jaguars, snapping in 69 regular-season games. He took the 2019 season off, but returned with the Giants last season.
2021 outlook
Veteran Casey Kreiter is entrenched as the Giants long snapper. Tinker was simply insurance for the Giants a season ago. If Kreiter is healthy, Tinker will again be relegated to the practice squad or the waiver wire.
