A fifth-round pick by the Jaguars in 2019, he played in all 16 games for Jacksonville that season. Armstead carried 35 times for 108 yards (3.1 yards per carry) and caught 14 passes.
He missed all of last season due to COVID-19. Jacksonville placed him on the COVID-19 reserve list twice as he was reportedly hospitalized on two occasions with respiratory issues.
A 5-foot-11, 220-pound back out of Temple, Armstead had been expected to compete for a roster spot with veteran Corey Clement and rookie sixth-round pick Gary Brightwell. Those two would seem to be next in line on the running back depth chart behind Saquon Barkley and Devontae Booker.
Armstead had a fairly quiet mini-camp. Perhaps, after a long-term battle with COVID-19, he isn’t fully healthy.
