For once the Giants won’t be opening against the Dallas Cowboys

We’ve known for some time who the New York Giants will face in the 2021 season. Wednesday, we will finally find out who the Giants will be playing each week, and when those games will be played, when the NFL does their full schedule release.

We got our first tease of the schedule on Wednesday morning when ESPN’s Field Yates tweeted out the slate of Week 1 early games. It features the Giants facing the Denver Broncos. Draft Kings lists the Giants as 1.5-point underdogs.

For the first time in a long time, the Giants won’t be starting the season against the Dallas Cowboys, on the road, or playing a night game.

But while this isn’t a prime time division game, this game does have a fair amount of intrigue. First and foremost is the presence of former Giants’ head coach Pat Shurmur as the Broncos’ offensive coordinator. Also on the field will be Drew Lock, who came from the same draft class as Daniel Jones and was the preferred target of more than a few Giants’ fans.

And hanging over it all is the specter of Aaron Rodgers. The relationship between Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers seems to have deteriorated significantly, with Rodgers reportedly wanting a trade out of Green Bay. Further reports list Denver as a preferred landing spot for Rodgers and that the Broncos will pursue the reigning MVP should the opportunity arise.

More things we think we know

The Giants will reportedly open their NFC East schedule in Week with a Thursday, Sept. 16 visit to Landover, Md. to face the Washington Football Team. They will reportedly host Washington at MetLife Stadium in Week 17.

Week 6 will reportedly see the Giants host the Los Angeles Rams.

The Giants will reportedly host the Philadelphia Week 12 (Nov. 28) and the Dallas Cowboys Week 15 (Dec. 19).

Notable road games for the Giants will include a pair of Monday Night Football games against last year’s Super Bowl participants. Those are Week 8 vs. the Kansas City Chiefs and Week 11 vs. the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
