This is a story I did not expect to be writing today, and a person I did not expect to be writing it about.

Former New York Giants wide receiver Travis Rudolph has been charged with first-degree murder attempted first-degree murder after a double shooting in Lake Park, Fla.

Pro Football Talk reported that Rudolph was arrested by the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office shortly after midnight. One of the victims was reported to be dead at the scene and the other was taken to a nearby hospital.

Rudolph signed with the Giants as an undrafted free agent in 2017. He appeared in seven games and caught eight passes for 101 yards (12.6 yards per catch). He was cut by the Giants at the end of training camp in 2018. He signed with the Miami Dolphins practice squad, but has been out of the NFL since tearing an ACL.

Rudolph was best known for a 2016 photo of him sitting in a Florida elementary school eating lunch with a boy who had autism and had been left alone by his peers.
