Following a career year with Saquon Barkley on the sidelines due to injury, former New York Giants running back Wayne Gallman is now headed to the San Francisco 49ers.

A 2017 fourth-round pick, Gallman rushed for 476 yards as a rookie before Barkley came in as the second overall pick and became the starter. Gallman played sparingly in 2018 and 2019 when Pat Shurmur was the head coach. But last season, with Barkley’s injury, Gallman started a career-high 10 games while rushing for 682 yards and 6 TDs with another 114 yards receiving. When the team signed former Broncos and Raiders running back Devontae Booker early in free agency, it signaled the end of Gallman’s tenure in New York.
Now, Gallman joins a team that is only a year removed from a Super Bowl appearance and is known for their “running-back-by-committee” approach. Gallman may find that operating as a more featured back in Kyle Shanahan’s offense.
