Elerson Smith, the New York Giants’ fourth-round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, will make his debut Sunday against the Las Vegas Raiders. Smith, who has been on IR with a hamstring injury suffered right before training camp, was activated on Saturday.
The Giants are also elevating two players — linebacker Trent Harris and return specialist Pharoh Cooper — from their practice squad for Sunday’s game.
Smith, 6-foot-6 and 250 pounds, has not played in a game since the end of the 2019 season. The former Northern Iowa star missed the 2020 season when the Missouri Valley Conference cancelled play due to COVID-19.
Harris was elevated from the practice squad for Monday’s game against the Kansas City Chiefs. He played seven defensive snaps, with one tackle.
Cooper, a veteran return man who was an All-Pro in 2017, was signed to the practice squad earlier in the week. The Giants have lost returners C.J. Board, Jabrill Peppers and Dante Pettis to injuries this season.
