My short list of GM candidates

Ed Dodds- Assistant General Manager, Indianapolis Colts

Dodds got his start as a scout for the Seahawks, helping build a team that went to the playoffs several times before being snatched up by the Colts in 2018. In his first year in Indy he oversaw a draft that is regarded by many to be one of the best draft classes in over 20 years, selecting multiple All-pros including Quenton Nelson and Darius Leonard along with multiple solid starters. All 3 of his drafts since then have been good as well, and he will likely be the most sought after GM candidate this cycle.

Joe Horitz- Director of Player Personnel, Baltimore Ravens

Horitz has been in the Ravens organization for over 22 years, getting his start back in 1998 as a personnel assistant. In his time there, the Ravens have won the Superbowl twice, and have an overall record of 215-153-1 (.712), so its safe to say he knows what winning looks like. In 2009 he was promoted to Director of College scouting, and has helped oversee several solid draft classes, including players such as Za'Darius Smith, Ronnie Stanley, Marlon Humphrey and Lamar Jackson.

Joe Schoen- Assistant General Manager, Buffalo Bills

Schoen was hired by the Bills in 2017 after spending 8 years in various roles with the Dolphins. The Bills have had solid drafts every year since his hiring, acquiring players such as Tre'Davious White, Dion Dawkins, Matt Milano, Josh Allen, Devin Singletary and Dawson Knox.

Ryan Cowden- Vice President of Player Personnel, Tennessee Titans

Brought aboard in 2016 as the director of player personnel after spending 7 years with the Panthers, Cowden was promoted to vice president after only 2 years in the Titans organization. Don't let the Isaiah Wilson debcle fool you, ever since Cowden arrived the Titans have been proficient in adding talent in both free agency and the draft, with notable selections in the latter being Derrick Henry, Kevin Byard, Corey Davis, Jonnu Smith and AJ Brown.

Ray Agnew- Assistant General Manager, Detroit Lions

I want to preface this by stating that I am basing my interest in him entirely on his tenure with the Rams, where he served as director of pro scouting from 2017 to 2020. A former 1st round pick of the Patriots, Agnew actually played for the Giants from 1995 to 1997, so there is a connection here. The Rams haven't had a 1st round pick since 2016, so they relied heavily on free agency and trades to supplement the talent on their roster in Agnew's time there, and he certainly helped deliver. Players of note that Agnew helped bring aboard are Andrew Whitworth, Robert Woods, Nickell Robey-Coleman, Marcus Peters, Jalen Ramsey, Brandin Cooks, Dante Fowler Jr, and Austin Corbett.

I think any of these candidates would be excellent replacements for Gettleman, but let's face it, Mara is just going to go and promote Abrams to take over. A man can dream though, can't he?
