Kyler Fackrell is being activated from injured by the New York Giants in time for their season-ending game on Sunday against the Dallas Cowboys.
Fackrell, a veteran edge defender, has been on IR since Dec. 1 with a calf injury. Fackrell has 3.0 sacks and 31 tackles for the Giants in 111 games, eight starts.
“I think it’s a big boost just from a maturity standpoint being a vet,” said linebackers coach Kevin Sherrer earlier in the week. “Guys like Cam [Brown], you got Carter [Coughlin] and guys like that, those were developmental guys. All of a sudden they’re thrust into some form of a starting role. I think that allows them in some ways to step back a little bit and kinda take a deep breath.”
Reserve cornerback Madre Harper is also being activated from injured reserve. Harper has been on IR since Dec. 11 with a knee injury. Harper played in nine games for the Giants, with five tackles and a fumble recovery. The Giants also announced that placekicker/punter Ryan Santoso is being elevated from the practice squad.
Fullback Elijhaa Penny, who missed last week’s game with an illness and did not practice during the week because of that illness, has been placed on injured reserve. The Giants also waived veteran wide receiver/quarterback/special teamer Joe Webb.
