Roster news: Giants work out 9 before the end of the season

Could any of these players become Giants in the off-season?

Albert Breer of the MMQB is reporting that the New York Giants worked out 9 players on the last day of 2020.

Ryan Bee (DL) - Bee is a big (6-foot-7, 280-pound) defensive lineman who who originally came into the league as an undrafted free agent for the Washington Football Team in 2019 and spent most of that year on their practice squad. Bee appeared in one game with one tackle for Washington before being waived with an injury designation at the start of the 2020 season.

Dino Boyd (OT) - Boyd, a 6-foot-3, 302-pound offensive lineman is a native of Newark, N.J., and was originally signed by the Kansas City Chiefs as an undrafted free agent after the 2019 NFL Draft. Boyd was a four-year starter at left tackle for Rhode Island and Cincinnati before signing with the Chiefs. He also spent time in 2019 and 2020 with the Cincinnati Bengals and Chicago Bears.

Jordan Chunn (RB) - Chunn is a good-sized running back at 6-foot, 230 pounds with plenty of experience with Jason Garrett. Chunn was originally signed by the Dallas Cowboys as a UDFA out of Troy following the 2018 NFL Draft. He spent the majority of the last two years on the Cowboys’ practice squad before being released with a non-football injury designation when Dallas trimmed their roster from 90 to 80 players during training camp this year.

Matt Flanagan (TE) - Flanagan is another former UDFA, signed by the Washington Football Team out of Pittsburgh after the 2018 NFL Draft. He spent most of that year on their practice squad before being elevated to the active roster late in the season, appearing in three games at the end of the season. Flanagan was waived by Washington before the 2019 season and was briefly on the Jacksonville Jaguars’ practice squad early in 2020.

Cale Garrett (LB) - Garrett, 6-foot-1, 234 pounds, was signed by the Tennessee Titans as an undrafted free agent out of Missouri after the 2020 NFL Draft. Garrett generated some buzz in 2019 with a three game stretch in which he recorded four turnovers (three interceptions and a forced fumble) and three defensive touchdowns — before having his season ended by a torn pectoral muscle. He was waived during final cut-downs, but was quickly signed by the Minnesota Vikings in September.

Shelton Gibson (WR) - Shelton Gibson is a slightly-undersized receiver at 5-11, 190 pounds, but has solid athletic numbers with a 4.5-second 40-yard dash, 4.20-second short shuttle, and a 6.83-second 3-cone drill. Gibson was originally drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles out of West Virginia in the fifth round of the 2017 NFL Draft. He has spent time with the Eagles (twice), Cleveland Browns, Washington Football Team, and Carolina Panthers.

Kyran Moore (WR) - Moore went undrafted in the 2018 NFL Draft and signed with the Saskatchewan Roughriders in the Canadian Football League. He’s an undersized receiver at 5-foot-10, 165 pounds, but has 110 receptions for 1,471 yards and 7 touchdowns in the CFL.

Jalen Morton (QB) - Morton was originally signed by the Green Bay Packers as an undrafted free agent out of Prairie View A&M following the 2020 NFL Draft. He is a big (6-foot-4, 220-pound) quarterback with plus athletic traits and a reputation for impressive arm talent (he is reportedly able to throw a football 100 yards).

It’s too late for the Giants to sign any of these players and have them be available for Week 17, so its likely that these workouts were held with futures contracts in mind.
