Safety Jabrill Peppers (right ankle sprain) will not practice on Wednesday for the New York Giants as they begin preparing for Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Rams.
Peppers left Sunday’s game against the San Francisco 49ers after being injured early in the game while trying to block a field goal.
If Peppers is unable to play, Julian Love and Logan Ryan will likely be the Giants’ safety tandem.
Peppers has also been returning punts, averaging 12.5 yards per return. Veteran wide receiver Golden Tate might be first up as a replacement for Peppers in that role.
Also, it looks like the return to action of linebacker David Mayo (IR/torn meniscus) may have to wait. Judge said Mayo would not return to practice today, meaning the 21-day window the Giants have to bring him back to the active roster will not start yet.
That would seem to indicate that Mayo’s return could be at least another week away.
We will have an update with the full injury report when it becomes available.
Giants injury report
Did not participate:
DB Jabrill Peppers (ankle)
DB Brandon Williams (groin)
Limited participation:
DB Adrian Colbert (quad)
DB Julian Love (knee/ankle)
The fact that all four players on the injury report are defensive backs likely has a lot to do with why the Giants are signing Madre Harper off the Las Vegas Raiders practice squad.
Roster update
The giants have placed Williams on IR. That opens a spot for Harper.
