On the heels of the devastating Saquon Barkley injury, the New York Giants could also be without wide receiver Sterling Shepard for a while.
Ian Rapoport is reporting that Shepard has turf toe. The wide receiver is expected to have an MRI on Monday, but Rapoport writes “that’s an ailment that generally causes a WR to miss some time.”
Sunday was the first time in Daniel Jones’ career that Barkley, Shepard, Evan Engram, Golden Tate and Darius Slayton had played together. It obviously did not last long.
Shepard was injured making a catch right before halftime against the Chicago Bears. He played one third quarter play before coming out of the game for good.
Shepard, who dealt with repeated concussions, played only 10 games in 2019.
If Shepard is sidelined, C.J. Board and Damion Ratley will likely get increased roles. The Giants might also be forced to promote one of the four wide receivers on their practice squad (Derrick Dillon, Johnny Holton, Austin Mack, Binjimen Victor) to the active roster.
