As we approach Sunday’s New York Giants-Chicago Bears Week 2 NFL game, it’s time to ponder the question of which member of the Chicago Bears you would most want to insert in the Giants’ lineup.
Now, when I ask writers from opposing teams this question I almost always take star running back Saquon Barkley off the table. So, to be fair, I’m going to take star Bears outside linebacker Khalil mack out of consideration. Picking the three-time All-Pro would be too easy.
So, which player other than Mack would you want?
There are several worthy of consideration.
On offense, wide receiver Allen Robinson would make a nice target for Daniel Jones. In his seventh season, Robinson has a pair of 1,000-yard receiving seasons to his credit. At 6-foot-220 pounds he has size that no other Giants wide receiver has. It would be intriguing to swap him in for Golden Tate.
You could probably make an argument for safety Eddie Jackson, a 27-year-old two-time Pro Bowler who was an All-Pro in 2018. At least until Xavier McKinney returns. Cornerback Kyle Fuller might look nice opposite James Bradberry. Defensive lineman Robert Quinn is a terrific player when healthy, but it’s hard to look at defensive line as a position of need for the Giants.
The player I’m taking? Linebacker Roquan Smith.
Now, taking the 2018 No. 8 overall pick is a bit of a gamble. He is coming off a disappointing 2019 season that led the Chicago Sun-Times to refer to him as “an enigma.”
Smith, though, is just 23. He has had more than 100 tackles in each of his first two seasons, last year in just 12 games. He has the upside potential to become an All-Pro caliber every down inside linebacker. No offense to Devante Downs or David Mayo, but the Giants could use one of those.
I would take the chance. How about you? Vote in the poll and let us know who you would select.
