Good morning, New York Giants fans!
Dalvin Tomlinson on being a captain
In his fourth season with the Giants, Tomlinson has earned the respect of his teammates to the point where the former Alabama defensive tackle is now a team captain.
“It’s an honor to be a captain. To have my peers and everybody vote me in to be a captain is a great honor, I guess you can say, because just to see all the other captains in the past are just great player,” Tomlinson said on Wednesday. “I always try to lead by example. I feel like I can’t be a captain if I don’t go out there and give it my all each and every day. That’s one of the biggest things that I feel like every captain has to do.”
Butterflies for Nick Gates?
As of yet, no one has outright admitted that Gates will start at center for the first time in his career on Monday night. If that is the case, will Gates be nervous?
“I think I always get butterflies before my first game,” Gates said. “I think it’s just the first game of the football season, especially this year, it will be a lot different. But I’m excited. I think it’s good to have butterflies.”
Four practice squad players protected
According to a new rule for this season, four practice squad players can be protected each week, meaning they cannot be signed to another team’s 53-man roster before that week’s game.
The four protected practice squad players for the Giants this week are quarterbackl Cooper Rush, wide receiver Johnny Holton, offensive lineman Chad Slade, cornerback Ryan Lewis. No team can sign any of those four players before Monday’s game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
