Evan Engram: “I just love to work”
Head coach Joe Judge revealed recently that he has told tight end Evan Engram “I love watching you practice.”
What does Engram think of that praise?
“Each day is a new day. Each day is an opportunity to get better and to attack and to empty the tan,” Engram said on Monday. “It’s definitely exciting to talk to Coach and to continue to work to get better. Like I said, every day is a new opportunity. I just love to work each and every day.”
Engram wouldn’t bite when asked to predict what he might be able to do if he plays all 16 games.
“I’m basically just going to come in and do what I’m asked every day. That’s being a complete football player,” Engram said. “That’s being physical in the run game, that’s being dynamic and flexible in the pass game.”
Devante Downs gets a fresh start
Linebacker Devante Downs appeared in seven games for the Giants a season ago, but did not play a single defensive snap. Now, with a new coaching staff in place, it looks like the third-year pro has a chance to win a starting job next to Blake Martinez.
“It’s a perfect example of kind of wiping the slate clean, giving the guy an opportunity with everyone on a level playing field,” inside linebackers coach Kevin Sherrer said on Monday. “He’s done well for us.”
