Joe Judge: Giants in no rush to spend their money

The New York Giants could stand to supplement their roster in a few spots — cornerback, offensive line, maybe wide receiver come to mind. It does not, however, sound like the Giants are in any rush to spend the $9.9 million they saved when Nate solder opted out of the 2020 season.

“We’ll always make the best decision for the team,” coach Joe Judge said on Friday. “We don’t feel right now that we have money burning a hole in our pocket. We just know there is a little bit more for us in the cap space right now.”

The NFLPA website shows the Giants with $16.604 million in cap space.

With Solder opting out, Nate Wozniak retiring and questions at center the Giants may need to supplement the offensive line. Don’t expect that they will spend big to supplement the line, or any position on the roster.

With the salary cap dropping as low as $175 million next season having some cap space entering the offseason allows increased flexibility, so not spending every penny available could be advantageous.

Judge reiterated his support for Solder’s opt-out decision.

“We wanted Nate to play this year, but we fully support his decision not to because we absolutely understand what he is going through. This was not an easy decision for him, we talked about it a lot,” Judge said. “At the end of the day, I am not going to try to talk a player into doing anything when it comes to the situation we are in right now. You have to make the decision personally that’s best for you and your family. I think Nate did that and we fully support him.”
