With the news that the New York Giants are expected to cut placekicker Aldrick Rosas, the question quickly becomes who will replace him?

Let’s go through some of the possibilities.

Veteran free agents

Stephen Gostkowski — It’s easy to put 2 and 2 together here and connect the long-time New England Patriots’ placekicker to the Giants. Joe Judge was Gostkowski’s special teams coach with the Patriots for the past several seasons, and knows what the 14-year veteran and two-time All-Pro can do.

Gostkowski’s 87.383 career field goal percentage is fifth all-time.

Gostkowski, 36, suffered a torn left hip labrum last season that limited him to just four games, but is not planning to retire.

Ryan Succop — Another veteran kicker who spent most of 2019 on IR, kicking in only four games for the Tennessee Titans due to a knee injury. In 11 NFL seasons, Succop has made 82.2 percent of his field goals.

Chandler Catanzaro — The 29-year-old five-year veteran has made 83.8 percent of his field goals. He kicked for the Carolina Panthers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers a season ago.

Nick Folk — The 35-year-old is also familiar to Judge, having been the replacement for Gostkowski in New England for seven games last season. Folk has made 80.4 percent of his field goals during his career, seven seasons of which were spent with the New York Jets.

Around the league

There are a number of teams around the NFL with multiple placekickers on their current 90-man rosters.

Veterans Kai Forbath and and Greg Zuerlein are both on the roster of the Dallas Cowboys. The Carolina Panthers have both Graham Gano and Joey Slye on their roster. Those might be competitions worth watching.

One thing to note. With no on-field work for several weeks and no preseason games to prepare for, the Giants do not have to hurry to get a kicker onto the roster.
