New York Giants roster rankings: Nos. 40-31

We have been steadily going through roster rankings for the New York Giants with training camp — hopefully — approaching. We’ve gone from 91 (yes, 91) down to 41. Now, as we hit the next 10 players on the list, things begin to get interesting.

I’m also guessing now is about the time when I will start to get some serious arguments about where players are ranked.

40. OT Matt Peart
39. OL Shane Lemieux
38. CB Darnay Holmes
37. OL Cameron Fleming
36. RB Dion Lewis
35. OL Nick Gates
34. TE Levine Toilolo
33. TE Kaden Smith
32. CB Corey Ballentine
31. CB Sam Beal

Here, I have some of the mid-round picks and players who are likely to serve backup or part-time roles. I fully expect that by the time we actually get to the season some of these players will move up the rankings.

I am going to guess that one player whose ranking will be questioned is Nick Gates. He could easily be much higher on this list — if he happens to win the starting center job. Entering camp, though, I consider him as a reserve offensive lineman. Same with cornerbacks Corey Ballentine and Sam Beal — I consider them backups until proven otherwise.
