‘Tis the season for optimism among NFL fan bases. The shine of the 2020 NFL Draft hasn’t yet worn off. New players have been added in free agency. No games have been lost. No players have been injured. Optimistic talk has emanated from GMs and head coaches.
Fans of the New York Giants, a team that has won 12 games in three seasons, are not exempt from this bubbling optimism.
In SB Nation’s ‘FanPulse’ draft survey, more than 90 percent of Giants fans who responded gave the team’s draft either an ‘A’ or ‘B’ grade.
Fan confidence in the direction of the franchise has risen dramatically since the end of the season. Just above 20 percent of participating voters were confident in the franchise’s direction at the the conclusion of a 4-12 2019 season. Now, that confidence hovers at around 90 percent.
Much, of course, has changed for the Giants. Pat Shurmur is out and Joe Judge and a new coaching staff are in place. James Bradberry and Blake Martinez arrived in free agency to bolster the defense. The draft class has been received positively, including by Emory Hunt of Football Gameplan.
We will see how long all these happy feelings last.
