NFL Draft rumors: Could the Giants actually trade up for an offensive tackle?

That seems highly unlikely

Could the New York Giants actually trade up from No. 4 in the 2020 NFL Draft this evening.

The Detroit Lions hold the No. 3 selection in the draft, and are reportedly talking to both the Giants and Miami Dolphins (who hold the fifth pick) about swapping picks.

The Dolphins, who have long been rumored to be looking into quarterback, may be trying to jump the Giants for a tackle.

I, for one, am not buying the rumor. I would be surprised if the Giants traded up to secure a tackle when there are several high-end prospects in the draft at that position. As for the Dolphins, given their capital, a trade up to 3 wouldn’t shock me if they were head over heels in love with one of Andrew Thomas, Jedrick Wills, or Tristin Wirfs.

The Giants have been linked to both Wills and Wirfs, and Thomas makes sense for them as well; if there’s smoke, there tends to be fire, especially with the Giants - a team that everyone knew wanted Daniel Jones at 6 in 2019, and Saquon Barkley at 2 in 2018.

If the Dolphins and Lions do swing a trade involving the third pick, then I believe it will be for a quarterback. Either Oregon’s Justin Herbert or Alabama’s Tua Tagovailoa. If that is the case, then there has to be another team who may be willing to trade with the Lions to select the signal caller, which could be the Los Angeles Chargers. The Dolphins have 14 draft picks, three in the first round (5, 18, and 26), with 3 selections on day 2; 39th and 56th in the second round, and pick 70 in the third round. Miami has plenty of draft ammunition, but will they make a move?
