Alex Tanney will get an opportunity to continue his career with the New York Giants in 2020. Per a report from Field Yates, the Giants have exercised the option in Tanney’s contract for the upcoming season.

Tanney was a backup for the Giants the last two seasons. He appeared in only one game in that time, completing his only pass last season for 1 yard.

Tanney, 32, has been in the NFL since joining the Kansas City Chiefs as an undrafted free agent out of Monmouth (IL.) in 2012.

The journeyman has spent time with eight teams — Chiefs, Giants, Dallas Cowboys, Cleveland Browns, Tennessee Titans (twice), Buffalo Bills and Indianapolis Colts.

Tanney has played in only two games in that time, completing 11-of-15 passes (73.3 percent) for 100 yards and 1 touchdown.

Tanney’s base salary, per Over The Cap, will be $950K and his cap hit slightly above $1 million.

Even with Tanney back, it still seems likely the Giants will bring in at least one more veteran quarterback to compete for the No. 2 role behind Daniel Jones.
