What the Giants’ depth chart might look like after free agency

Is this a better roster than the Giants had a year ago?

With all of the comings and goings created by free agency, let’s take a look at the New York Giants’ depth chart with a month left prior to the 2020 NFL Draft. This is, quite obviously, unofficial. It is my interpretation of what it might look like.

I ask, probably in vain, that you don’t obsess over things like Darius Slayton not being listed as a starter. I only used two wide receivers spots rather than three. The point is to get a visual representation of where the Giants are still in need of help and where they might be strong.

Position First Team Second Team Third Team Other
LT Andrew Thomas Cameron Fleming Eric Smith
LG Will Hernandez Chad Slade, Shane Lemieux Kyle Murphy
C Spencer Pulley Nick Gates Shane Lemieux Kyle Murphy
RG Kevin Zeitler Shane Lemieux Kyle Murphy
RT Nick Gates Cameron Fleming Matt Peart, Tyler Haycraft
TE Evan Engram Garrett Dickerson Rysen John
TE Kaden Smith Levine Toilolo Eric Tomlinson Kyle Markway
QB Daniel Jones Colt McCoy Cooper Rush Alex Tanney
WR Golden Tate Darius Slayton Cody Core Alex Bachman, Derrick Dillon, Binjimen Victor
WR Sterling Shepard Corey Coleman David Sills V Austin Mack, Tony Brown
RB Saquon Barkley Dion Lewis Wayne Gallman Javon Leake, Sandro Platzgummer
FB Elijhaa Penny

The offense chart pretty much shows us what we thought. Help is need on the offensive line and at wide receiver. Jon Halapio could be back and he could end up as the starting center. Right now, though, he’s not part of the roster.

The position of need that jumps out at me is probably safety. Of course, there is no way of knowing what the Giants new coaching staff thinks of Julian Love.
