Leonard Williams of the New York Giants has been selected as NFC Defensive Player of the Week. Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson would probably agree.
Williams was credited with 2.5 sacks for 25.5 total yards and five of the Giants’ 10 pressures of Wilson during last Sunday’s 17-12 upset victory by the Giants.
Williams now has a career-high 8.5 sacks, eclipsing his previous best of 7.0 while with the New York Jets in 2016. The first game of the 2016 season is the only other time in his career Williams had as many as 2.5 sacks in one game.
Williams is the second Giant to win a Player of the Week award this season; kicker Graham Gano won special teams honors in Week 9 after kicking three field goals in the Giants’ 23-20 victory in Washington.
The 26-year-old Williams is playing this season on the franchise tag. He can be a free agent at the end of the season.
